In order to produce work of such a high standard Tyler is known to employ other software packages, such as After Effects, for creating animated textures and compositing CINEMA 4D’s multi-pass renders. After Effects especially, makes depth of field blurring and element isolation considerably easier. When not using CINEMA 4D’s particle system, Tyler will often turn to Trapcode’s AE plug-in, Particular. It is a particle system, which works in conjunction with After Effects 3D camera. “CINEMA 4D’s After Effects file export feature is ideally suited to this as you can effortlessly match the particles in After Effects 3D space to the output from CINEMA 4D”, Tyler explains. He also completes a large majority of color correction and light diffusion in After Effects.

Most recently Tyler has been writing what will be his sixth short film “a depressing slow-paced ‘long short’ which combines the history of the Truevision Targa image format with a story about several groups of people living in an underground CGI parking structure after the total collapse of modern society”. Tyler intends to shoot the actors in High Definition against a green screen with all of the environments to be constructed in CINEMA 4D. “I’ve been experimenting with CINEMA 4D’s vibrate expression to make the camera look handheld and it’s working very nicely”, Tyler says, “and by shooting the actors with a locked tripod I can key them in After Effects and bring the output into CINEMA 4D” and create some otherwise impossible effects.
Overall, Tyler is consistently pleased with the standard of work he is able to produce with CINEMA 4D. “For a huge shop I can understand having a number of different 3D applications in the toolbox”, Tyler says, “but for smaller shops and lone freelance operators like myself it makes sense to choose a single solid 3D application that can do anything, do it quickly, and deliver without headaches.” And deliver he does.
