I put these two screens together just as they are not that far apart in regards to modelling. At this stage I had modelled the majority of the head, in screen 2 you can see the head is wide and round with a small forehead that makes him look a little squashed. He also has a basic ear shape ready for additional detail. In screen 3 I have extended the forehead to give him a little more breathing space for hair etc and have modelled the ear out. The ear is quite simple in this model as he is a toon. Modelling ears can be quite a frustrating task so its always nice to dumb them down when you don't need the full complex versions.

At this point I had started to play around with how I was going to make the hair. I suck at making hair, mainly because I am too lazy to model it all out. However, this time I wanted to try and get something worthwhile for hair (maybe it’s because I am losing my own and felt it was my cyber wig). In this screen I was trying out flat polys with the intention of using alpha maps, however it just didn't look great to me so I scrapped it. I left this screen in just so you could see how my head was working as I modelled.

I think at this point I had decided to leave the hair for a while, no point in rushing it. I moved on and started to model the body. In this step I was doing the lazy option and modelling the clothes over a nonexistent body. This can sometimes work but to be honest it is better to model the body, even in a simple form, as will it help you layout the clothes and can be used for cloth FX etc later on. I scrapped this version pretty soon after I did it and decided just to make a basic body shape.

I skipped a few saves here as they did not really add much to the story of the model. Here you can see the very basic shape of the model that I used to model the clothes etc. I had scrapped the idea of modelling the clothes without a body and just went down this route instead as I knew it would help in the long run. I modelled the body in the same way I modelled the head, by selecting edges and extending/extruding them out to define the shape of the body. My bodies are usually very low poly and lack a lot of detail, this is something I really need to fix to be honest but with toon character you can usually get away with it.
