Do you have a favorite project?
To be honest, I've been really determined to stick to jobs that are interesting to me, and I've been fortunate enough to be successful in this a lot of the time. So I've really enjoyed almost every project I've worked on, for one reason or another.
For an absolute favorite, I would have to say it's between my current project and the BBC short series I mentioned earlier. It was a series of short episodes aimed at encouraging the Welsh to use the Welsh language and as a result, preserve a large part of their culture. We also had Scottish Gaelic and Northern Irish Versions. Http://www.bbc.co.uk/colinandcumberland
Axis had a lot of creative input that, in turn, allowed the artist to have a certain amount of input in the look of things. It was a simple yet creative project that was almost a vacation compared to some of the other photo real and/or fast-paced ones, and it was creatively fulfilling as well.

What areas of 3D would you say are your specialty?
Lighting is my big number one. Compositing comes into play with this a lot, so I'm as much a compositor as I am a lighter. Before I worked at Axis, I was always the one 3D guy so I had to be a generalist. But I got hired there as a lighter, and since then I've focused my resume and reel on what I'm most proficient in.
Surprisingly, as soon as I focused on one area, I found getting studio job easier, and I found my creative ability growing a lot more quickly. That saying, “Jack of all trades; master of none” is really true in a lot of cases.
Other than lighting, I enjoy FX, and end up doing this almost as often as lighting.
Your currently working at O-mation Studios. Can you tell us a bit about what your working on?
I'm working on a CG Film called Barnyard, written and directed by Steve Oedekerk. I originally was slated to do FX here for the film, but time lines worked out better for lighting, so I came as a lighter/compositor. Http://www.barnyardmovie.com
