by Wes Beckwith
Award winning artist, writer, and director William Vaughan is best known in the 3D community as NewTek's LightWave 3D Evangelist. His work spans all facets of 3D including print, multimedia, web, commercials, games, animated shorts and more. Two years ago Vaughan became an instructor at the Dave School in Orlando, Florida where he prepares students for working in the industry. We took a few minutes to talk with William about some of his recent commercial work, LightWave v9 and what his students have been up to lately.
Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your history with 3D?
Although I'm living in Orlando, Florida I'm a true Texan. Always have been and always will be! I lack the Texan accent but I make up for it with Texas pride.
My professional career began as a traditional illustrator and designer. I cut my 3d teeth on industrial animations for the oil and gas industry as well as work for clients like Compaq, Halliburton, Nasa and others for over 4 years before I broke into the entertainment side of things.
I've been lucky enough to work on a variety of 3D projects like a series of 6 fully 3D children's books for Jamsa press, toy commercials, games and more. I enjoy all aspects of the 3d industry and try and dabble in as many different areas as possible.
